Corona League Update BAA Field is in line to become the first official home of Bermuda Hogges and the New Corona Football League. The sports complex is scheduled to undergo a million dollar facelift, complete with state-of-the-art synthetic pitch and floodlights, after planning bosses gave the scheme the green light last week and should be ready by the upcoming season. New Commercial League looking to BAA as its home base Don Burgess Deputy Editor Wednesday, June 03, 2009 A new Commercial League could start play this fall using BAA as a home base. Many Commercial League clubs were left scrambling for a place to play after the Bermuda Football Association's restructuring put them out in the cold. The BFA's restructuring plan would allow for 10 Masters teams and there were 24 Commercial League clubs in the BFA fold meaning 14 sides wouldn't be playing any football this Autumn. Mike McGrath, who plays for BAA's Commercial League team, said: "We're trying to continue the lifeblood of some of our teams and when we find a way to do that we want to speak to the BFA about it first before it's in the press as a courtesy to them. We want to help each other out as much as we can." McGrath said that some of the teams have been around 30 years and it would be a shame to just let them pass on. A different path "We're going a different route. The way the divisions are in the BFA's plan our team doesn't quite fit in and we'd have to sacrifice players to fit in...just so we can accommodate the players."+ McGrath said he couldn't comment on how many teams would be involved or where the league would play, but the Bermuda Sun understands that there are 10 to 12 sides that have committed to playing in the new league. The Sun also understands that the league will use BAA Field for all of its games. One source told the Sun: "Once BAA gets its artificial pitch it will be able to handle the amount of games without too much wear and tear on the field." It is believed that Robin Hood applied to play in the First Division and if they are not accepted will play in the new Commercial Division.
